Equitable Development Plan

An Equitable Development Plan Task Force was created by the Foundation in 2017 to plan for smart growth in the area surrounding the coming park. Made up of a diverse coalition of neighborhood voices, these community members are working together to encourage collaboration, trust, and partnerships. The task force has already created its mission statement and determined the specific impact area of the plan. A number of neighborhood meetings will take place over the next year to 1) assess the needs and solutions of the impact area and surrounding neighbors; 2) interview and engage the private and nonprofit sectors that could be potential partners; and 3) determine regular monitoring procedures for project impact against baseline data.

Research shows that areas with greater economic and racial diversity favorably impact the opportunities for children and families. Stable, affordable housing that provides access to employment, educational institutions, and healthcare resources are critical for building wealth and economic mobility. An Equitable Development Plan refers to the intentional policies and practices to promote equitable neighborhood development. This is necessary to prevent involuntary displacement and ensure that low and moderate-income people and small businesses share in the benefits of appreciating real estate markets.
